The sawtooth is only compatible with 9.0, 9.1, 9.21 + 9.22 (according to my tests) it can be hacked to boot 8.6 with the 2.5.1 mac os rom but theres no point in doing this hack unless u feel like sacrificing pci slots for ethernet + firewire addon cards + losing sleep functionality. 9.0.4 was for gigabit ethernet models only (code name "mystic") which features a different motherboard all together and only 3 ram slots (like the later digital audio + quicksilver models) but running 8.6 is something the quicksilvers + mdd's are not able to do, so its the trick up the sawtooth's sleeve.ĩ.0.4 is not compatible with the sawtooth motherboard at all. i have other machines that can more adequately run os10 + even mac os 9 (like on the quicksilver + mdd) the sawtooth 450mhz is shit even in os9 compaerd to these other later machines as long as its running on its original 450mhz cpu that is.
Having it run like a slow ass piece of trash in osx. So, rather then running 10.4.11 on a sawtooth with only 450mhz cpu, i plan to run older software from 1996, 1997 + 1998 and get incredible performance from the machine rather then ie: the 98 beige towers + 9xxx 8xxx 7xxx series were only clocking in at around 200 some odd mhz. because the g4 450mhz is *That much faster* then any other mac that was running 8.6. New operating + old computer = very bad performance Old operating system + new computer = insane performance the way that apple intended the computer to function 100%Īs with any computer, running a less resource intensive os results in fast performance.
